Cooling and Heating Control: The temperature control system in an environmental chamber is typically composed of an electric heater and a refrigeration unit. The electric heater is used to heat the chamber, while the refrigeration unit is used to cool it. If the low temperature specification of the chamber is very low, then sometimes a sizeable chiller unit is required. The temperature can be set to a specific value, and the chamber will maintain that temperature by turning on the heater or the refrigeration unit as needed.
Humidity Control: The humidity control system in an environmental chamber typically employs a combination of steam generators and dehumidifiers, which run off the refrigeration system, depending on the target humidity level. The humidity is controlled by maintaining a constant dew point and air temperature, which produces a very constant relative humidity (RH).
Hypoxic (Oxygen) Control: Hypoxic chambers are designed to simulate high-altitude environments by reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air. This is achieved by drawing in ambient air, reducing the proportion of oxygen molecules, and then supplying fresh, filtered hypoxic air to the chamber. Hypoxic chambers are used to intensify the process of adaptation to altitude conditions, which can improve athletic performance, enhance endurance, and increase overall fitness levels.
Wind Control: The wind control is specifically designed to simulate wind speed for athletes. The simulator can change wind speeds ranging from 0 to 12m/s, and can operate in either fixed mode or program mode. With the advent of indoor training equipment such as treadmills and bicycle machines, which are free from the influence of wind resistance caused by the natural environment, the demand for wind simulation systems has increased. Universities conduct research on wind force in the actual environment and produce multifunctional wind simulation systems with low noise, uniform stability, electric lifting, adjustable angle, and programmable control.
Radiant Heat (Solar) Control: Solar radiant heat is a significant environmental factor that can affect athletic performance. The solar simulator can simulate the sun’s radiation heat for athlete training, with a range of 400 to 1200W/m2, and can operate in either fixed mode or program mode. Thermoregulatory responses in a hot environment have found that endurance exercise capacity falls progressively as solar radiation increases.
